Cortney Bezold Named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District® Team

Bezold is the second gymnast to earn the honor in program history
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University gymnastics student-athlete Cortney Bezold (Maineville, Ohio-Bishop Fenwick) was named to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Women's At-Large Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), Thursday, May 17. The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.To be eligible for Academic All-District® consideration, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have reached sophomore standing.
A first-time winner of the award, Bezold became just the second EMU gymnast to earn the accolade, joining former Eagle Kendal Valentin, who did so in 2018. Additionally, Bezold is the only gymnast in the Mid-American Conference to be tabbed with the honor, and one of only two league members to be honored in CoSIDA's District 5, joining Bowling Green State University's Talisa Lemke (Swimming).
The Maineville, Ohio native competed in all 12 meets for EMU on bars in 2019, posting five scores of 9.850-or-better throughout the season. A two-time MAC Specialist of the Week honoree and All-MAC First Team selection, Bezold qualified as an individual for the NCAA Regional Championships in 2019, joining teammates Emili Dobronics (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg), and Allie Smith (Telford, Pa.-Souderton) as Eastern's three competitors in the event.
