EMU Impresses with Nine Top-10 Performances at Spartan Invite

EAST LANSING, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Nine members of the Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team competed at the Spartan Invitational hosted by Michigan State University Saturday, April 6. Throughout the day's competitions, the Eagles recorded nine top-10 efforts, including a first-place mark in the Javelin Throw.
Earning the Eagles' top efforts for the day were freshman Garrett Wade (Rio Rancho, N.M.-V.Sue Cleveland) and junior Ivan Suazo (Brooklyn, N.Y.-Westland), earning first and second-place finishes in the Javelin Throw and 110m Hurdles, respectively. Wade recorded the team's lone event title of the day with a career-best heave of 58.67m, more than two meters better than his previous top performances. Just behind the Rio Rancho, N.M. native in the Javelin rankings was senior Derek Ziegenfuss (Allentown, Pa.-Parkland), registering a third-place mark of 58.07m. Suazo also used a career-best effort for his silver finish, clearing the hurdles in just 14.32 seconds, marking the third-fastest performance by a Mid-American Conference athlete this season.
In other top-five performances, sophomore Taige Bryant (Edmond, Okla.-Edmond Memorial) placed fourth overall in the Discus Throw, clearing 50.83m for the fourth-best effort by a conference athlete during the outdoor campaign, while marking EMU's fifth-furthest heave in program history. Fellow field athlete redshirt senior Zach Purcilly (Troy, Mich.-Avondale) also earned fourth place with a Shot Put heave of 16.61m.
