Jacobs Vaults Over the Competition in Day One of Spartan Invite

The senior recorded the fifth-best pole vault effort in program history Friday
EAST LANSING, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Field athletes from the Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team kicked off competition at the Spartan Invitational hosted by Michigan State University Friday, April 5.
The day was highlighted by senior Alex Jacobs' (Dublin, Ohio-Dublin Jerome) first-place finish in the Pole Vault competition, clearing a career-best 5.06m, tying the seventh-best performance by an Eagle in program history. With his efforts Friday, Jacobs moved into fifth on the conference's performance list for the 2019 outdoor season.
Meanwhile, seniors Micah Peters (York, Ontario-Vaughn Road Academy) and Mike Hierholzer (Medina, Ohio-Medina) each recorded top-five finishes in their respective events, placing fourth in the Triple Jump and fifth in the Hammer Throw, respectively. Peters cleared 13.84m with his leap, while Hierholzer recorded a career-best clearance of 52.14m. Also competing in the Hammer Throw was sophomore Taige Bryant (Edmond, Okla.-Edmond Memorial), marking an 11th-place career-best effort of 49.26m.
The Eagles continue competition at the Spartan Invitational Saturday, April 6, beginning at 9:30 a.m. with the 1500m unseeded sections. Live results will be available here, or by following the team's twitter account @EMUMXC_TF.
