Eagles Get Set for Spartan Invitational

EMU returns to East Lansing, Mich.-based meet for the second consecutive season
EAST LANSING, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team returns to competing in the Mitten State, participating in the Spartan Invitational, hosted by Michigan State University, Friday and Saturday, April 5-6.
In the Eagles' last trip to East Lansing, the Green and White collected two event titles bolstered by three career-best efforts April 6-7, 2018. In total, EMU snagged seven top-three finishes at the event, led by then-senior Tifani Byrd (Toms River, N.J.-Toms River North) and then-freshman Catherine Mittiga (South Bend, Ind.-John Adams)'s first-place finishes in the 100m Hurdles and Long Jump, respectively.
The Green and White come off a successful weekend in Texas and California, collecting 15 top-collegiate performances while earning seven top-10 finishes throughout its three days at the Texas Relays, Bobcat Invitational, and Stanford Invitational, March 28-30. The tri-meet weekend was highlighted by the 4x100m Relay team of senior Jessica Harris (Slidell, La.-Slidell) and juniors Micah Johnston (Toledo, Ohio-Toledo Christian), Brittni Mason (Richmond Heights, Ohio-West Geauga), and Kolby Ganther (Park City, Kan.-Northeast Magnet), who earned a fifth-place effort with a time of 45.28 at the Texas Relays. The squad not only earned a top-five overall finish, but also recorded the sixth-best effort in program history.
Friday's competition at the Spartan Invitational is set to begin at 11 a.m. with the Pole Vault, while Saturday's efforts are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. with the Discus Throw.
