Rowing Readies for MACRA Championships

Eagles won three of four races in 2017 competition
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University rowing team heads north to compete in the Mid-American Collegiate Rowing Association (MACRA) Championships, hosted by Grand Valley State University, Sunday, April 28.
The Eagles last competed in the MACRA Championships in 2017, winning three of four Grand Finals. The First Varsity Eight took home the J Clark Wray Cup crown for the first time in program history, winning the event with a time of 6:53.6. The Novice Four outpaced five other boats to earn a first-place finish in the Larry Tolle Cup finals, finishing over 24 seconds before second-place Grand Valley State with a time of 8:08.2. The Second Varsity Eight finished first for the second consecutive season by posting a time of 7:07.7.
Eastern last competed at the Mason Invitational April 14, collecting three event titles on the day while leading the Colonial Athletic Association to victory in conference competition. The Second Varsity Eight earned a top finish in the B Final with a time of 6:55.40, more than 15 seconds ahead of the competition. The Varsity Four won its B Final, registering a time of 7:44.44. EMU's Third Varsity Eight brought home the third event title of the day, turning in a 7:14.20 2000m performance to win in the B Final by 11 seconds. The First Varsity Eight qualified for the A Final, where the Eagles finished with a time of 6:41.61 to earn a second-place finish behind the University of Kansas while besting St. Joseph's University.
Rowing begins at 8 a.m., with the Eagles' Varsity Four hitting the water first, followed by the Novice Eight, the Third Varsity Eight, the Second Varsity Eight, and the First Varsity Eight.
