The NCAA Championships run from March 20-23 in Austin, Texas
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) - After a record-breaking performance at the Mid-American Conference Championships, Eastern Michigan University senior swimmer Delaney Duncan (Galesburg, Ill.-Galesburg) has been named a NCAA National Championship qualifier, the association announced Wednesday, March 6. Duncan's appointment makes her the first Eagle in program history to qualify for the national championships all four years of her career.
"We are so excited to see Delaney complete her outstanding career representing Eastern at the National Championships in Austin," said Head Swimming and Diving Coach Peter Linn.
Qualifying in both the 100 and 200 Breaststroke, Duncan will look to repeat her 100 Breast All-American performance when she set the then-Eastern Michigan record with a fourth-place time of 58.36. Her effort recorded the highest finish by an Eagle since Kelly Hendricks snagged a third-place finish on the 3-meter dive in 2013.
The Galesburg, Ill. native will also look to best her 200 Breast appearance in 2018, where she placed 14th-overall with a program record swim of 2:08.80 and earned All-American Honorable Mention honors. This season, Duncan has already bettered both of her school records, setting EMU's top 100 and 200 Breaststroke marks at the MAC Championships, Feb. 27-March 2, with times of 58.25 and 2:07.38, respectively.
Duncan currently holds the fifth-fastest 100 Breast time in the nation as well as the seventh-best time in the 200 Breast this year.
"I am very grateful and proud of my achievements these past four years," Duncan said. "I can not wait to finish my career out at the NCAA Championships."
The diving field for the NCAA Championships will be released following the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships, March 16-17.
