EMU’s 4x100m relay squad runs sixth-best effort in program history

SAN MARCOS, Texas (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team concluded its time in the Lone Star State Saturday, March 30, completing competition at the Texas Relays, hosted by the University of Texas, and the Bobcat Invitational, hosted by Texas State University.
The Eagles' top finish of the day came at the Texas Relays, where the 4x100m Relay team of senior Jessica Harris (Slidell, La.-Slidell) and juniors Micah Johnston (Toledo, Ohio-Toledo Christian), Brittni Mason (Richmond Heights, Ohio-West Geauga), and Kolby Ganther (Park City, Kan.-Northeast Magnet) earned a fifth-place finish with a time of 45.28. The Green and White not only improved its preliminary heat effort by .45 seconds in the finals, but also bested squads from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and New Mexico Junior College to top its final heat seeding by three places. EMU's performance is not only is the fastest in the Mid-American Conference this season, but is the sixth-best effort in program history in the event.
EMU's other top-10 finishes came from sophomore Crystal Washington (Los Angeles, Calif.-Carson) and freshmen Angel Gazaway (Cincinnati, Ohio-Princeton) and Alysse Marie Wade (Mansfield, Ohio-St. Peters), placing sixth, sixth, and seventh overall in the Triple Jump and 100m Hurdles, respectively. Washington's leap cleared 12.38m, her career-best effort and the best performance in the Triple Jump by a Mid-American Conference athlete this season. Both Gazaway and Wade ran the 100m Hurdles, finishing just .01 apart with career-best times of 14.04 and 14.05, respectively. The freshmen duo's runs also marked the third and fourth-best efforts seen in the MAC during the 2019 outdoor campaign.
In other field efforts, junior Kristine Bourg (Shorewood, Ill.-Joliet West) took home a top-20 finish in the Javelin Throw, clearing 36.90m for a 18th-place finish. On the track, freshman Mair Edwards (Basingstoke, England-The Costello School) earned 15th overall in the 200m with a career-best time of 24.41.
The Green and White head back to Michigan to prepare for its trip to East Lansing, Mich. to compete in the Spartan Relays, April 5-6.
