More Information.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) - The NCAA Gymnastics Selection Show announced Monday, March 25, that three Eastern Michigan University gymnasts earned individual bids to the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional Championships, which will be held at the Crisler Center in Ann Arbor, Mich., April 4-6. The three moving onto the regional competition are junior Emili Dobronics (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg), who will be competing in the all-around competition. Junior Allie Smith (Telford, Pa.-Sounderton) will compete on vault, as well as sophomore Cortney Bezold (Maineville, Ohio-Bishop Fenwick) on bars.

NCAA Regional selection is primarily based on the Regional Qualifying Scores (RQS) of individuals and teams alike. Outside of the top-36 teams who automatically advance to the regional competitions, the next four all-around competitors and two individual specialists per event that are not members of the qualifying teams are selected to compete in their respective events.

Dobronics finished the season with an RQS of 39.165 in all-around, ranked 13th in the central region. Throughout the year, the junior has tied her career-high of 9.900 on floor three times, having done so most recently at the Mid-American Conference Championships, March 23.  Additionally, she topped her career-high all-around score this season, hitting 39.250 versus Western Michigan, Feb. 2. The Orland Park, Ill. native was selected to the All-MAC Second Team this season, MAC All-Tournament Team and her 9.900 score on floor at the MAC Championship makes her the first EMU gymnast to take home gold on the event since Leah Hashimoto, Natalie Hashimoto, and Sarah Wasilenko, split the floor championship in 2002.

On vault, Smith ranked 21st in the central region, having an RQS of 9.830. The Telford, Pa. native earned a career-high 9.875 on the apparatus at the University of Illinois-Chicago, Feb. 22. Moreover, her score of 9.875 at the MAC Championships earned her a second-place finish on the event and a spot on the MAC All-Tournament Team.

The third Eagle to qualify was Bezold, who ranked 19th on bars in the central region with an RQS of 9.850. The sophomore hit 9.900 for the first time in her career at the George Washington Quad, Feb. 22, for a new career-best. Also, she was named to the All-MAC First Team for her efforts on bars.

The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors (who are not on an advancing team) from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships.  In addition, the event winners at each regional will advance to the national championships (in that event only) if they are not part of a qualifying team or an all-around qualifier. Full details of the NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships field in Fort Worth, Texas will be determined Monday, April 1.

The Ann Arbor Regional will take place at Crisler Center in Ann, Arbor Mich., Friday, April 5, with the first session starting at 2 p.m. and the second session at 7 p.m.
