Eagles Add Competition to Outdoor Schedule

EMU will send six runners to the Black and Gold Invitational hosted by Vanderbilt University
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team has added an additional meet to its schedule, sending six Eagles to participate in the Black and Gold Invitational, March 22-23, hosted by Vanderbilt University.
Redshirt senior Tifani Byrd (Toms River, N.J.- Toms River North), seniors Rebekah Carr (Celina, Ohio-Celina) and Jocelyn Sharpe (Westerville, Ohio-Westerville North), junior Kristine Bourg (Shorewood, Ill.-Joliet West), sophomore Madison Distelrath (Fort Wayne, Ind.-Homestead), and freshman Mair Edwards (Basingstoke, England- The Costello School) will represent the Green and White at the event.
Edwards and Distelrath will kick off the Eagles' events Friday, running the 200m and 1500m, respectively. Saturday will start with Bourg competing in the Javelin Throw, followed by Byrd's efforts in the 100 Hurdles and 100m dash and Carr's performance in the Pole Vault. Closing out EMU's time at the Invitational are Distelrath and Sharpe, who will each compete in the 800m competition.
Eastern Michigan comes off a strong start to the 2019 outdoor season at the Yellow Jacket Invitational, March 15-16 in Atlanta, Ga. Throughout the two-day competition, the Eagles saw 10 top-10 finishes, including four top-three finishes, in addition to recording two top-10 program marks. Sophomore Kadian Clarke (Kingston, Jamaica-Immaculate Conception) cleared 47.27m en route to an 11th-place finish in the hammer throw and a spot in the EMU record books, while the 4x100m Relay team of senior Jessica Harris (Slidell, La.-Slidell), and juniors Micah Johnston (Toledo, Ohio-Toledo Christian), Brittni Mason (Richmond Heights, Ohio-West Geauga), and Kolby Ganther (Park City, Kan.-Northeast Magnet) crossed the finish line with a time of 45.38 for a second-place performance and the seventh-fastest time in program history.
The Black and Gold Invitational is set to begin Friday, March 22, at 4 p.m. CT with the women's hammer throw. The first Eagle competitors will hit the track an hour later, with the 200m set to begin at 5 p.m. CT and the 1500m scheduled for 6 p.m. CT. Saturday's competitions are set to start at 10 a.m. CT and continue through 5 p.m. CT.
