HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) – On a day the color green is celebrated worldwide, Eastern Michigan University's Beau Breault (Hartland, Mich.-Hartland) helped make sure the leaderboard at the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular featured the verdant shade on St. Patrick's Day, March 17. Breault notched his seventh career top-10 showing to pace the Eagles with a one-under 215 (70-73-72) on the par-72, 6,793-yard El Campeon Golf Course.
The Hartland, Mich. native finished in a three-way tie for eighth, most noticeably edging No. 70 James Nicholas from Yale. Breault opened the round with an eagle on the opening hole, as he added five birdies throughout the final day.
Overall, the EMU men's golf team finished in sixth-place with a 875 (286-293-296). Kansas State took home the championship with a 848 (283-285-280) and KSU's Jeremy Gandon earned medalist honors with a 208 (70-67-71). EMU defeated a pair of Mid-American Conference foes (Northern Illinois and Indiana) as well as a pair of Big Ten Conference rivals (Indiana and Wisconsin).
Ty Celone (Long Sault, Ontario, Canada-St Joseph's Catholic) tied for 21st with a 220 (78-71-71), while Cougar Collins (Caledon, Ontario, Canada-Mayfield Secondary) and Zach Sudinsky (McKinney, Texas-Boyd-Stephen F. Austin) shared 50th-place at 226. Zack Mason (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Blyth Academy Lawrence Park) rounded out the lineup with a 229 (72-73-84) for 66th.
Next EMU will battle Eastern Kentucky in a match play event Saturday, April 6, in Richmond, Ky.
