EMU heads to Atlanta, Ga. to begin outdoor competition March 15-16
ATLANTA, Ga. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan women's track and field team begins its outdoor track season at the Yellow Jacket Invitational hosted by Georgia Tech University, March 15-16, in Atlanta, Ga.
Eastern Michigan opened up its 2018 outdoor track and field campaign at the TCU Invitational in Dallas, Texas March 16-17. The two-day invitational saw three personal-best efforts and one performance that tied the Green and White's program record. The 400 Relay team of then-senior Jasmine Jones, then-junior Jessica Harris (Slidell, La.-Slidell), and then-sophomores Brittni Mason (Richmond Heights, Ohio-West Geauga) and Micah Johnston (Toledo, Ohio-Toledo Christian) finished with a time of 44.99 to tie the EMU all-time record in the event, which had stood since 2005.
The Eagles come off a strong indoor track and field season, which cumulated in a runner-up finish at the Mid-American Conference Championships, Feb. 22-23. EMU topped the other 10 MAC competitors by a minimum of seven points, securing its 14th-straight second-place or better finish at the conference Championships. Six members of the Green and White were named to the All-MAC Second Team including senior captain Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind.-Zionsville Community), who, overall, earned the second most points of any female trackster throughout the weekend's competitions with a second place finish in the 3000m, third in the 5000m, and fourth in the Mile.
Day one of the Yellow Jacket Invitational is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. with the Hammer Throw, followed by the 5000m at 9 p.m. The second day of competition will begin with field events at 11:00 a.m, with running events scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. For more information regarding this weekend's event, including links to live results, visit the Women's Track and Field schedule page at EMUEagles.com.
