YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - Eastern Michigan University junior swimmer Claire Young (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.-Grosse Pointe South) has accepted an invitation to compete in the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America's (CSCAA) National Invitational Championship, March 14-16, hosted by Cleveland State University. The junior will swim in the 50 and 100 Backstroke events.
The CSCAA National Invitational Championship (NIC) is an annual event aimed at Division I swimmers and divers that have achieved NCAA 'B' time standards, but were not selected for the NCAA Championships.
Young qualified for the competition based on her efforts at the Mid-American Conference Championships, Feb. 27- March 2. She enters the NIC after a All-MAC Second Team performance at the conference Championships, swimming the first leg of the Eagles' 200 IM relay squad that took home second place, besting their seed time by over a second, while also earning a third-place finish in the 200 Back and a fourth-place finish in the 100 Back.
Young will dip back in the pool Thursday, March 14, for the 50 Backstroke preliminary heats, set to begin at 9:30 a.m. Championship heats of the event will commence at 6 p.m. A similar format will be followed Friday, as the Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich. native will swim in the 100 Backstroke preliminary heats beginning at 9:30 a.m., with championship heats scheduled for 6 p.m. Live results will be available by clicking here, or by following the Eagles on twitter @EMUSwimDive.
