BLUFFTON, S.C. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team returns to the tee box Monday-Tuesday, March 4-5, at the seventh-annual Colleton River Collegiate hosted by Michigan State University. The invitational will be held on the par-72, 7,180-yard Colleton River Club with the Eagles playing 36 holes of continuous play Monday beginning at 8:15 a.m.
The 14-team field includes Bowling Green (152), Cincinnati (78), Eastern Michigan (112), Georgia Southern (52), Iowa (47), Iowa State (45), Kansas State (108), Memphis (89), Miami (Ohio) (133), Michigan State (69), Oakland (182), Penn State (60), Rutgers (117), and Wisconsin(104).
Located along the Atlantic Ocean, the Colleton River Plantation Club is a member-owned golf community that is surrounded on three sides by water. The only one of its kind in the southeast United States, the Colleton River Pete Dye Course, which opened in 1998, is a stunning links-type course that has unobstructed views of Port Royal Sound and the Atlantic Ocean from 11 of its 18 holes. Stretching more than 7,300 yards, it plays through dense Lowcountry forest as well as open scenic wetlands – and common to many of Dye's designs, it features small, undulating greens that are well-protected by pot bunkers.
In addition to the hosting of the U.S. Junior Amateur, Colleton River's Pete Dye Course has hosted eight U.S.G.A. qualifiers since 2005, including three U.S. Opens, four U.S. Amateurs and one U.S. Senior Open.
Ty Celone (Long Sault, Ontario, Canada-St Joseph's Catholic), Beau Breault (Hartland, Mich.-Hartland), Zach Sudinsky (McKinney, Texas-Boyd-Stephen F. Austin), Cougar Collins (Caledon, Ontario, Canada-Mayfield Secondary), and Tyler Rayman (Ostego, Mich.-Ostego). Zack Mason (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Blyth Academy Lawrence Park) will also be playing in the event as an individual.
Last year, EMU finished eighth at the event, March 12-13, 2018, with a 56-over-par 920 (299-318-303). Sudinsky tied for eighth place at eight-over-par 224 (72-78-74) to lead the Eagles. Iowa State won the tournament with a 16-over-par 880 (296-296-288) while Cincinnati and Miami tied for second at 29-over-par 893.
