EMU returns to action March 4-5 at the Colleton River Collegiate
DADE CITY, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) — For the second consecutive year, the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team took fourth at the Eighth Annual Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play Event on the par 72, 7,153 yard Lake Jovita Golf Course. The Eagles fell to third-seeded Ball State University, 4-2, in the third-place match Tuesday, Feb. 12.
Cougar Collins (Caledon, Ontario, Canada-Mayfield Secondary) won three of his first four holes en route to a 3&1 decision over Joey Ranieri. Meanwhile, Beau Breault (Hartland, Mich.-Hartland) needed a come-from-behind victory on the back side, after going down two holes with seven to play. Breault was up to the challenge, winning four consecutive holes to grab the 2&1 victory.
Ty Celone (Long Sault, Ontario, Canada-St Joseph's Catholic) and Zach Sudinsky (McKinney, Texas-Boyd-Stephen F. Austin) each dropped their matchups by 3&2 scores, while Tyler Rayman (Ostego, Mich.-Ostego) fell 4&2. The final match for Zack Mason (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Blyth Academy Lawrence Park) came down to the 18th, with Yianni Kostouros posting a victory on the final hole for the 1-up decision.
No. 2 seed Miami dispatched of Bowling Green by a 5-1 margin in the championship match to defend its title on the South Course at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club. Miami's quest for a repeat championship barely survived Monday's opening round. The RedHawks squeaked past Drake on a tiebreaker and then defeated Ball State 4-2 in a tight afternoon match to reach the finals.
In other consolation action Tuesday, DePaul defeated Ohio for fifth place and Drake topped Loyola for seventh place.
Eastern Michigan will return to action March 4-5 with its first stroke play event of the spring at the Colleton River Collegiate in Bluffton, S.C.
