YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team opened its 2019-20 home campaign with one of the largest victories in program history, a 95-38 win over Olivet College, Friday, Nov. 8, inside the Convocation Center.

With the sweep of EMU's annual Education Day twin bill, the Eagles (1-1) have captured their 20th consecutive home opener, dating back to the 2000-01 season. The 57-point triumph marks the women's basketball program's sixth-largest margin of victory in Convocation Center history, and the third time in the last two seasons that EMU has held an opponent to fewer than 40 points at home.

Junior Courtnie Lewis (Belton, Mo.-Belton) paced the Green and White with 15 points while logging nine boards and two assists, while fellow junior Autumn Hudson (Richwood, Ohio-North Union) notched 10 points and pulled down a team-best 12 boards for her second career double-double. Sophomore Kiara Johnson (Buffalo, N.Y.-Cardinal O'Hara) added 13 points off the bench and led the Eagles with a pair of blocks, as redshirt junior Corrione Cardwell (Cleveland, Ohio-New Tech East) tallied 10 points, five boards, six helpers, and a team-best three steals.

All 11 of EMU's eligible players saw game action for the second consecutive contest, including sophomore Natalia Pineda (Miami, Fla.-John A. Ferguson), who posted 11 bench points along with six boards, four helpers, and a team-best three steals. Additionally, sophomore Jenna Annecchiarico (Baldwin, N.Y.-Baldwin) contributed nine points and a team-best eight assists.

The Eagles finished 53 percent (35-of-66) from the field, while Olivet struggled to a 28 percent (14-of-50) clip. EMU also crushed the Comets on the glass by a 51-25 count, and recorded more assists (25-8), bench points (44-11), points in the paint (48-18), fast-break points (32-0), and points off turnovers (36-2).

After the Comets knocked down a pair of early triples, a corner three from Annecchiarico capped a 16-0 EMU run that opened up a commanding 20-6 lead, prompting Olivet to burn a timeout with exactly four minutes to go in the opening quarter. After head coach Fred Castro called timeout near the midway point of the second quarter, the Eagles scored eight unanswered points en route to a 47-21 halftime lead.

The Green and White continued to pour it on in the third quarter as they outscored Olivet, 27-6. Redshirt sophomore Juanita Agosto (Seattle, Wash.-Garfield) and Pineda each buried a corner three, while redshirt sophomore JaBria Knight (Canton, Ohio-East Canton) netted her first points of the season as the Eagles cruised to an emphatic 95-38 victory over their NCAA Division III opposition.

Eastern takes to the road Saturday, Nov. 16, as they travel to Youngstown, Ohio to battle the Penguins of Youngstown State University. Tip-off from the Beeghly Center is scheduled for 11 a.m.
