Eastern Michigan University junior men's golfer Cougar Collins (Caledon, Ontario, Canada-Mayfield Secondary) is one of nine athletes that will compete for Team Canada's National Amateur Squad, consisting of five men and four women. The announcement was made Nov. 18 by Golf Canada. A total of 18 athletes, male and female, were selected to represent Team Canada as part of the 2020 National Amateur and Junior Squads.

"Golf Canada is thrilled to welcome an outstanding roster of elite athletes to represent Team Canada in 2020—they are truly deserving as evidenced by their strong performances this past season," said Jeff Thompson, Golf Canada's chief sport officer. "The athletes selected represent a mix of returning team members as well as talented up and coming athletes who have come through provincial or regional high-performance programs. Each of them will be fantastic ambassadors representing Canada on the global golf stage."

Collins joins the Amateur Squad as the team's youngest member. The Caledon, Ontario native earned medalist honors at the U.S. Men's Amateur Qualifier at The Thornhill Club, finished tied for 10th at the Canadian Men's Amateur Championship and placed sixth at the Ontario Men's Amateur Championship.

While at Eastern, Collins has placed in the top-15 on five occasions. In his sophomore year, he aided Eastern Michigan in capturing its third Mid-American Conference Championship, placing sixth with a 146 (70-76).

He started his junior year setting his career-best three round tally at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational, Sept. 9-10, with a 208 (73-67-68) finishing in a tie for 12th. At the Little Rock/First Tee Classic, Oct. 21-22, Collins had five rounds of par-or-better, including a season-low seven-under 65. The 65 is tied for the eighth-lowest round in program history.

Other male members of the National Amateur Squad include: Étienne Papineau, Sam Meek, Brendan MacDougall, and Noah Steele. The five players will start play with the Canadian National Amateur Squad in July 2020.
