The pair of Eagles were named First-Team All-MAC, and All-MAC Freshman Team, respectively
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - The Mid-American Conference office announced today, Nov. 20, the release of the All-MAC First and Honorable Mention teams, along with the individual awards for Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, Setter of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and Coach of the Year. The student-athletes receiving the honors were voted on by the league's 12 head coaches. Among the recipients of honors are Eastern Michigan's redshirt senior Cassie Haut (Monroe, Mich.-Monroe) and redshirt freshman Raeven Chase (Toronto, Ont.-Michael Power St. Joseph Catholic).
Haut collects first team honors for the second consecutive season, while Chase was named to the All-Freshman squad.
"The statistical performance that Cassie put up this season makes her deserving of this recognition, but the impact she has had on this team and our program goes well beyond what the numbers show," offered Head Coach Darcy Dorton. "I am very grateful that the conference recognizes Cassie's performance as a player! Those of us within the program know that Cassie's lasting impact also includes being an All-American leader, teammate, student, and friend. We will miss her in so many ways and I am proud of her for all she has given to our program in the five years she has been with us."
About Chase, Dorton added, "Raeven had a real break-out season for us and receiving this award is a wonderful acknowledgement of the work that she has put in. The most exciting part of Raeven's progress is that this is just the beginning for her. I know that Raeven will take this recognition as motivation to continue improving and setting bigger goals for herself."
Haut, the reigning MAC Tournament MVP and a 2018 First Team All-MAC selection, had a senior season to remember for the Green and White. The Monroe, Mich. native finished third in the league in kills per set (3.43) and second in the conference in points per set (4.15). A five-year member of the EMU volleyball team, Haut finished her EMU career with 1,288 total kills in 125 matches played, and was a major contributor to the program's first-ever Mid-American Conference Tournament championship and berth in the NCAA tournament (2018). Additionally, she was named one of just 30 finalists for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award, which is given to the nation's best volleyball student-athlete who exhibits excellence in four key categories: community, classroom, character, and competition.
Chase, in her second year at EMU, became a major contributor for the Eagles. The Toronto native finished third in the MAC with a .352 hitting percentage, and sixth in the league with 1.03 blocks per set. In her first season of action following a redshirt year, Chase compiled 108 kills and 147.5 total points.
After wrapping up the season, Head Coach Darcy Dorton, along with 13 set-to-return Eagles will be back to work this winter, preparing for the 2020 season, which will begin in late-August, 2020.
