Women's Cross Country Ready to Race at NCAA Great Lakes Regional

Eagles resume postseason after setting MAC record with fifth straight conference title
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – After winning their fifth consecutive Mid-American Conference Cross Country Championship crown, Nov. 2, the Eastern Michigan University women's cross country team is set to compete in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Friday, Nov. 15, in Madison, Wis. The Eagles will take on a half-dozen programs ranked in the USTFCCCA Top 30, as No. 6 Michigan State, No. 7 Wisconsin, No. 11 Michigan, No. 16 Notre Dame, No. 20 Ohio State, and No. 24 Butler are among the 33-team field.
EMU ended last year's meet in sixth place with a team score of 231 points. Former Eagle Sydney Meyers led the team as she placed 10th with a time of 20:47, while graduate student Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich.-Chippewa Valley) finished 18th at 20:53 as both runners punched their ticket to the NCAA Championships. Redshirt senior Emily Smith (Somerset, England-Wells Cathedral School), junior Madison Distelrath (Fort Wayne, Ind.-Homestead), and sophomores Kaitlyn St. Bernard (Newport, Mich.-Jefferson) and Lexi Seifert (Waterford, Pa.-Villa Maria Academy) also raced against some of the country's top programs.
The Eagles return to action after becoming the first women's cross country program in MAC history to win five straight conference titles. Cizmas was one of three Eagles to finish in the top-10, as she claimed second place with a time of 21:28.0, while senior Karlie Swanson (New South Wales, Australia-Bellingen) also claimed First-Team All-MAC honors as she placed fourth at 21:55.4. From there, Smith gained Second-Team All-MAC recognition for the second straight year when she finished ninth with a time of 22:13.1.
Distelrath ended the title race in 15th as she clocked in at 22:29.2, while St. Bernard also finished in the points as she placed 30th at 22:55.2. Additionally, sophomore Emily DeLine (Newport, Mich.-Airport) was 32nd with a time of 22:55.9, before freshman Esme Davies (Lake District, England-Queen Elizabeth Grammar School) recorded 54th place as she posted a time of 23:26.2. Seifert and Janay Hall (Fayetteville, N.C.-South View) wrapped up the meet with times of 23:52.9 and 24:00.2, respectively.
This weekend's races will be held at the Thomas Zimmer Championships Cross Country Course. The women's 6K race will begin at 12:30 p.m. EST, before the men's EST 10K race starts at 1:30 p.m. EST
