LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University redshirt sophomore Zack Mason (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Blyth Academy Lawrence Park) collected his second top-10 showing of the fall Tuesday, Oct. 21, as he finished tied for 10th at the Little Rock/First Tee Classic. The Toronto, Ontario native posted rounds of 71, 71, and 75 for a 54-hole total of 217 on the par 72, 7,326-yard Chenal Country Club course.
Despite holding the lead after the first day, Eastern was unable to keep pace with a late-charge by both Illinois State and Campbell. ISU and CU finished tied atop the leaderboard with an eight-over 872. EMU finished fifth with a 881 (291-286-304) in a field that was comprised mostly of southern schools.
Junior Ty Celone (Long Sault, Ontario, Canada-St Joseph's Catholic) saved another round of par-or-better for the final day, posting a 72 to finish tied for 14th with a 219 (71-76-72). After a second round 65, junior Cougar Collins (Caledon, Ontario, Canada-Mayfield Secondary) was not able to find the same success to finish in 27th with a 223 (76-65-82). Freshman Luke Pelak (Mattawan, Mich.-Mattawan) and senior Zach Sudinsky (McKinney, Texas-Boyd-Stephen F. Austin) rounded out the scoring with a 228 (74-74-81) and a 235 (78-81-76), respectively.
The two-day tournament was the final fall competition for the Eagles. The Green and White now take an extended break from competition before returning, Feb. 10-11, for Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play in Dade City, Fla.
