YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's cross country team resumes competition against a talented field at the 2019 Under Armour Pre-National Invitational Saturday, Oct. 19 in Terre Haute, Ind. The Eagles will make their second trip of the season to Indiana State University's LaVern Gibson Cross Country Course, where they finished in sixth place with a team total of 196 points at the John McNichols Invitational, Sept. 21.
"We are looking forward to our return to Indiana State and the LaVern Cross Country course," said head coach John Goodridge. "This course will always be special to us as this is the site where Eastern Michigan placed third in the NCAA National Championships."
EMU is set to enter a dozen runners in the high-profile event, as senior Austin Wicker (Pinckney, Mich.-Pinckney), juniors Ian Cook (Worthington, Ohio-Thomas Worthington), Solomon Costa (Gahanna, Ohio-Gahanna Lincoln), and Owen Day (Ottawa, Ontario-International School of Dusseldorf), sophomores Luke Brown (Thornville, Ohio-Sheridan), Chris Devaney (New Plymouth, New Zealand-New Plymouth), Joe Ingram (Cincinnati, Ohio-Anderson), Baldvin Magnusson (Hull, England-Hull University), Andy Payne (Worthington, Ohio-Thomas Worthington), Noah Perrin (Akron, Ohio-Woodridge), and Eddie Zuercher (Rocky River, Ohio-Rocky River), and freshman Josh Hill (Amherst, Ohio-Amherst Steele) are all expected to compete. Nine of the aforementioned racers achieved personal-best 8K times when EMU competed at the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University, Oct. 5.
The Eagles will undoubtedly face their strongest competition of the regular season, as 11 of the 57 teams slated to participate are named in the most recent USTFCCCA Top 30 poll. Four programs are ranked in the top-10, as No. 2 BYU, No. 3 Colorado, No. 4 Washington, and No. 8 Ole Miss will be joined by No. 14 Oklahoma State, No. 15 Indiana, No. 21 Iona, No. 25 Eastern Kentucky, No. 27 Arkansas, No. 29 Virginia Tech, and No. 30 Florida State.
Seven EMU harriers will compete in the Men's 8K Blue race at 11:35 a.m., while the remaining five runners will take part in the Men's Open race at 2:05 p.m.
