OXFORD, Ohio. (EMUEagles.com) -- After a four-game homestand, the Eastern Michigan University volleyball team is set to hit the road for contests against two more MAC-foes, Miami and Bowling Green, in a pair of crucial conference matchups. The weekend kicks off with a match against Miami, Oct 18, at 7 p.m., and concludes with a bout versus BGSU, Oct. 19, at 5 p.m.
Fans can follow both matches using live stats, which are available through EMUEagles.com. The team's Twitter, @EMUVolleyball, will also provide in-match updates throughout both contests. Friday's match will be televised live via MiamiRedhawks.com.
HAUT EARNS MAC POW: Redshirt senior Cassie Haut, the reigning MAC Tournament MVP and All-MAC selection, was named the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week for volleyball, Oct. 14. Haut was impressive for Eastern Michigan as it hosted a Friday-Saturday doubleheader, Oct. 11-12, against Toledo, and Ball State, respectively. Haut paced EMU with 16 kills in its four-set win over MAC West foe Toledo, before again leading EMU with 21 kills one night later, a tough five-set loss to Ball State. Overall, Haut finished the weekend with a .378 hitting percentage. Her .329 season hitting average is good for eighth in the Mid-American Conference.
ALL-TIME VS. MIAMI: The Redhawks and Eagles have clashed 56 times on the volleyball court, with Miami holding the all-time series lead, 40-16. The last matchup between the squads was one of major implications, as it came in the form of the MAC Tournament championship game, Nov. 18, 2018. A five-set thriller, EMU emerged victorious to claim its first-ever MAC championship and birth in the NCAA tournament.
ALL-TIME VS. BGSU: A more even series historically, EMU and BGSU will play for the 62nd time on Saturday, Oct. 19. The Falcons hold the all-time edge, 33-28. EMU's MAC Tournament semifinal opponent a season ago, the last time the programs met, the Eagles dominated BGSU, 3-1, to advance to the league's championship bout, Nov 17, 2018.
SCHOMER SHOWING OUT: Senior Camille Schomer was instrumental for EMU in its Friday-Saturday doubleheader against Toledo and Ball State, Oct. 11-12. Against Toledo, Schomer recorded 23 digs, and just one reception error. The Rochester native followed up her impressive start to the weekend with a 12 dig, one reception error showing just one day later, Oct. 12, against Ball State. For the weekend, Schomer averaged 3.89 digs per set, and had just 0.22 errors per set.
TAYLOR ON A TEAR: Senior Riley Taylor was impressive for the Eagles, who picked up a MAC win over Toledo, Oct. 11, before falling in a five-set heartbreaker to Ball State, Oct. 12. After tallying 50 assists in four sets against Toledo, which marked her second consecutive 50-assist match, the Indianapolis native added 47 more assists just one night later, Oct. 12, against Ball State. In her last 17 sets played, Taylor is average a whopping 11.41 assists per set. In each of the last two weeks, she has tied her career-best in assists, and her 7.65 assist per set average in 2019 is good for eight-best in the league.
With her impressive weekend, Taylor has now tallied at-least 47 assists in each of EMU's last four matches, the best stretch of her career.
ON THE HORIZON: Following the weekend road swing, EMU will return home to the Convocation center to begin its second four-game homestand of the season. The Eagles host Buffalo, Oct. 24, before welcoming Akron, Oct. 26.
