YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- After a two game road swing to begin Mid-American Conference play, the Eastern Michigan University volleyball team returns home to face a pair of MAC foes. The Eagles will host in-state rival Central Michigan University, Thursday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. The game will include a banner-raising ceremony to commemorate the 2018 MAC Tournament Champion Eagles. On Saturday, Oct. 5, EMU will host Ohio University, beginning at 5 p.m. Admission to both contests is free.
Fans can follow both matches using live stats, which are available through EMUEagles.com. The team's Twitter, @EMUVolleyball, will also provide in-match updates throughout both contests. Thursday's match will be televised live on ESPN+.
THE CHAMPS ARE HERE: Thursday, Oct. 3, will be a memorable day inside EMU's Convocation Center, as the official banner-raising ceremony for the 2018 MAC Tournament Champion EMU volleyball team will take place. Last season, the Eagles finished with a 24-14 overall mark and made a magical run to the MAC Tournament crown, besting the No. 1, 2, 4, and 8 seeded-teams along the way. The match will begin at 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged to arrive early as festivities will take place throughout the evening. Admission to the contest is free.
ALL-TIME VS. CMU: Eastern will square-off with its in-state foe, the Central Michigan Chippewas, for the 88th time Thursday, Oct. 3. A largely one-sided affair, CMU has emerged victorious in 60 of the all-time matchups.
Last season, the Eagles and Chips split their season series, with each team claiming victory on the others home court.
ALL-TIME VS. OHIO: A much younger series, Saturday's matchup with the Bobcats will be just the 57th in the respective histories of the schools. In 57 matches, Eastern has emerged victorious just 16 times. The series does include one tie.
Last season, Ohio swept EMU, 3-0, in the only match between the two squads, played in Athens, on Oct. 27.
RED HOT HAUT: Redshirt senior Cassie Haut was impressive for Eastern Michigan as the Eagles began their 2019 Mid-American Conference slate with road matches at Western Michigan, Sept. 27, and Northern Illinois, Sept. 28. The Monroe, Mich. native paced the squad with 25 kills on the weekend, hitting at an impressive .385 clip. She is one of just five Eagles to play in each set on the road swing.
Additionally, Haut added five blocks between the two matches, good for third-best on the team. She ranks inside the top-10 in the MAC in points per set, kills per set, hitting percentage, and blocks per set.
SCHOME(R) THE MONEY: Senior libero Camille Schomer put together a strong defensive performance against Western Michigan, Sept 27, and Northern Illinois, Sept. 28, finishing with a team-best 28 digs on the weekend. The Rochester, Mich. native also finished with a team-leading 4.0 dig-per-set average. Her Mid-American Conference opening weekend performance comes on the heels of a 40-dig weekend, Sept. 20-21. She currently ranks eighth in the MAC with a 4.12 digs per set average.
TAYLORMADE FOR THE COURT: Senior Riley Taylor set the tone for the Eagles in two matches against Western Michigan, Sept. 27, and Northern Illinois, Sept. 28. The Indianapolis native tallied a team-best 41 assists, good for a 5.86 assist-per-set average. The versatile setter also contributed 15 digs for the Eagles, which was third-best for the team on the week. Taylor leads EMU with 309 total assists and a 6.06 assist-per-set average.
ON THE HORIZON: Eastern Michigan continues a stretch of four consecutive home matches as the Eagles welcome Toledo, Oct. 11, and Ball State, Oct. 12, for a Friday-Saturday Homecoming doubleheader. The match against Toledo is set to begin at 7 p.m., while first serve of the Ball State match is scheduled for 8 p.m.
