ATHENS, Ohio (
EMUEagles.com) - Early shooting struggles were too much for the Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team to overcome at Ohio University Saturday, Jan. 19. Ohio (15-1, 4-1 MAC) used a 20-0 run in the first half and 14 three-pointers to hand EMU (9-7, 2-3 MAC) an 85-44 setback inside OU's Convocation Center.

Redshirt senior Danielle Minott (Miami, Fla.-Miami Country Day (Syracuse)) led Eastern with 17 points, while sophomore Courtnie Lewis (Belton, Mo.-Belton) chipped in 10. On the glass, freshman Kiara Johnson (Buffalo, N.Y.-Cardinal O'Hara) and sophomores Autumn Hudson (Richwood, Ohio-North Union) and Lewis led Eastern's rebounding effort. Johnson tied a career-high with nine rebounds, while Hudson and Lewis added six apiece.

The Bobcats shot 50 percent from the field, converting 30-of-60 shots, including 14 triples. Meanwhile, the Eagles converted just 27 percent of their shots from the field and 5-of-25 of their three-point attempts.

Ohio got on the board first with a triple, but Eastern Michigan went on an 8-0 run fueled by six points by redshirt sophomore Corrione Cardwell (Cleveland, Ohio-New Tech East). The Bobcats broke their four-minute scoring drought with a three-point play just before the media time to cut the Eagles' advantage to two, 8-6, midway through the quarter.

Out of the media, the teams traded buckets before the Bobcats score five straight points to take a 17-12 edge through 10 minutes.

Eastern Michigan could not get anything to fall as the Eagles' scoring drought continued into the second frame. Hudson broke the 20-0 run by the Bobcats with an offensive putback and freshman Jenna Annecchiarico (Baldwin, N.Y.-Baldwin) followed with a corner three, but OU took a 43-18 lead into halftime thanks to its hot three-point shooting.

The Eagles continued to battle in the second half, but could not overcome the early deficit, falling 85-44.

Eastern is back in action at home Wednesday, Jan. 23, against Bowling Green State University. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside the Convocation Center.
