The Eagles head down Washtenaw Ave. to compete for the second straight season
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team continues its indoor season Saturday, Jan. 12, when it competes in the Wolverine Invitational at the U-M Indoor Track on the campus of University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich. EMU is competing in the meet for the second straight season.
EMU will see its first taste of competition in 2019 when it heads down Washtenaw Ave., last competing in the GVSU Holiday Open, Dec. 8, 2018. The season-opener saw seniors Tyler Underwood (Clinton, Mich.-Clinton) and Zach Harkey (Huron, Ohio-Huron) turn in historical performances. Harkey recorded the fourth-furthest weight throw in EMU history at 19.74 meters, while Underwood's time of 33.65 in the 300m registered the second-fastest time ever recorded by an Eagle runner. Both Underwood and Harkey's record-setting performances were good for first place finishes. Additionally, the Green and White had five runners finishing in the top-10 in the 1000m, with sophomore Owen Day (Ottawa, Ontario-International School of Dusseldorf) earning a first-place finish with a time of 2:29.10.
At last year's Wolverine Invitational, three Eagles ran away with event titles, led by then-senior Tyler Brown and then-freshman Day. In his Eagle debut, Day took first place in the mile run with a time of 4:08.79, while Brown nabbed the 200m and long jump titles with a time of 21.51 and a distance of 6.96, respectively. In total, nine Eastern Michigan student athletes posted career-bests at the 2018 rendition of the event.
The invitational is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. For more information regarding the invitational and live results, click here.
