Alyssa LaFace Named Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week

This is the first Player of the Week award for the Allen Park, Mich. native

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- Eastern Michigan University volleyball senior Alyssa LaFace (Allen Park, Mich.-Allen Park) was named the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week for her performance at the Michigan Invitational, the league office announced,Tuesday, Sept. 4.

The award comes on the heels of LaFace being named to the Michigan Invitational's All-Tournament team after averaging 6.64 digs per set for the weekend. She also finished with 73 digs and had just one reception error on 34 attempts. The libero's 6.64 digs per set average led the Mid-American Conference for the weekend, while she also added eight assists and four aces to her resume, including a season-high six assists against Cleveland State, Sept. 1.

In Eastern's match against Harvard, Sept. 2, the Allen Park, Mich. native tied the modern era record (2008 to present) for digs in a four-set match with 37. The senior has tallied 24-or-more digs on four occasions on the season, and also passed the 1,000 dig plateau in a 33-dig performance against St. John's University, Aug. 25.

The Eagles are on the road for a midweek match against Purdue Fort Wayne, Tuesday, Sept. 4 at 6 p.m. Eastern returns to early-season tournament play at the William and Mary Colonial Classic, Sept. 7-8 in Williamsburg, Va.
