This is Eastern's seventh consecutive season participating in the tough meet
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's cross country team heads to South Bend, Ind. to compete in the Notre Dame Joe Piane Invitational Friday, Sept. 28. This will be EMU's seventh straight season taking part in the meet.
In last year's competition, recent graduates Jordann McDermitt and Alsu Bogdanova paced the Eagles with a 14th and 40th place finishes. Redshirt senior Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich. – Chippewa Valley) concluded with the best time out of all members on the current roster, placing third with a mark of 17:17.6.
Consistent with years past, Eastern Michigan will go up against other top-ranked teams in the country this weekend. Four programs running in the meet made it onto the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's (USTFCCCA) latest top-30 poll, released Tuesday, Sept. 25. The ranked programs include: No. 11 BYU, No. 12 Furman, No. 21 California, and No. 22 Notre Dame.
This is the second consecutive week the Eagles go up against some of the nation's top talent, with last week's Battle In Beantown pitting EMU up against four teams ranked within the top-30. The Green and White ended up out-racing the highest-ranked team in then-No. 11 Providence College, besting the Friars by three points.
The day in South Bend will be loaded with action with five different races held throughout, all of which are located at Burke Golf Course. The Eagles' 5k starts at 1 p.m., with live results available by clicking here, or by following the link located on the schedule page of EMUEagles.com.
