Celone Leads the Eagles at the Windon Memorial Classic

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University sophomore Ty Celone (Long Sault, Ontario, Canada-St Joseph's Catholic) continued his string of solid play Monday, Sept. 24, as he carded a one-over 217 to finish tied for 14th-place at the 22nd Windon Memorial Classic, Sept. 24, on the par-72, 7,202-yard Knollwood Club.
Celone, who finished third at last week's EKU Raising Canes Intercollegiate, posted a final round 71 for the top spot among EMU golfers. Yesterday, the Mid-American Conference's reigning Golfer of the Week carded rounds of 71 and 75. For Celone, it is his second top-20 showing of the year and the third of his career.
Marquette was the team championship at four-under, while UC Davis's Thomas Hutchison posted an 11-under three rounds and was crowned the individual champion. Hutchison's 205 (64-73-68) was tied for the best 54-hole performance in Windon history (also done three previous times).
EMU finished strong with an 833 (191-304-288) in 11th-place, besting a pair of Big Ten Conference schools (Purdue and Indiana) in the star-studded field.
Senior Beau Breault (Hartland, Mich.-Hartland) finished tied for 24th with a 219 (77-4-68) while junior Zach Sudinsky (McKinney, Texas-Boyd-Stephen F. Austin) and sophomore Cougar Collins (Caledon, Ontario, Canada-Mayfield Secondary) shared 49th at 225. Rounding out the lineup, sophomore Tyler Rayman (Ostego, Mich.-Ostego) notched a 234 (78-81-75) for an 81st-place tie.
EMU returns to action at the Firestone Invitational, Oct. 1-2, in Akron, Ohio.
