EMU Sweeps Kent State in MAC Home Opener

Eastern starts off MAC play 2-0 for the first time since 2010
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team continued Mid-American Conference play with a sweep at home against Kent State University Saturday, Sept. 22 inside the Convocation Center. EMU's 2-0 start against MAC competition is its best start to conference action since the 2010 season.
Eastern applied the pressure early and never let up, delivering KSU its second straight MAC loss, 25-19, 25-20, 25-19.
Senior Jordan Smith (Solon, Iowa-Solon) and redshirt junior Cassie Haut (Monroe, Mich.-St. Mary Central Catholic) led the Eagles' attack, with each recording nine kills.
Redshirt senior Mallory Rajewski (Midland, Mich.-Midland) contributed 22 assists, followed by junior Riley Taylor (Indianapolis, Ind.–Perry Meridian) with 17, helping propel EMU to its seventh sweep of the season.
Defensively, senior Alyssa LaFace (Allen Park, Mich.-Allen Park) continued her dominance by putting up 22 digs for the Green and White. As a team, the Eagles out blocked the Golden Flashes, 9-1, led by Haut and Ariel Hamby (Oak Park, Mich.-Oak Park River Forest), who each registered five apiece.
Eastern had a firm command through all three sets, outperforming KSU in kills (46-34) and assists (45-33). The Eagles also edged the Golden Flashes in hitting percentage, finishing with a .266-clip, compared to Kent State's .115.
EMU continues its conference slate as it travels to Muncie, Ind., to take on Ball State University Friday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. The Eagles finish their two-match road swing with a match at the University of Toledo, Saturday, Sept. 29, at 7 p.m.
