Eagles earn second-straight non-conference win in 3-1 victory over the Crimson

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)--Sunday was a record-setting day for the Eastern Michigan University Volleyball team, finishing off the Michigan Invitational with a 3-1 victory over Harvard University inside the Convocation Center.

Junior Cassie Haut (Monroe, Mich.- St. Mary Catholic Central) marked 23 kills on the afternoon, tied for third-most in four sets for Eastern Volleyball (in the modern statistical era, 2008-present). The 23 kills also ties Haut's personal best, previously set Nov. 9, 2017 in a five-set win at Central Michigan. Senior libero Alyssa LaFace (Allen Park, Mich.-Allen Park) made her own mark in the record books, recording 37 digs in the four sets, tied for most in Eagles history during the modern era.

The victory was aided by the Eagles topping the Crimson in every statistical category, as they marked 20 more kills (62-42), three more blocks (11-8), and almost 100 points (.201-.110) better in attack percentage.  Senior setter Mallory Rajewski (Midland, Mich.- Midland) totaled her highest kill output of the season with 6, while adding a double-double of 37 assists and 14 digs.  Fellow senior Jordan Smith (Solon, Iowa- Solon) also earned a double-double, registering 14 kills and 14 digs. Sophomore April Houston (Minneapolis, Minn.-Southwest) notched 8 kills and a .227 hit%, fourth-best from the Eagles behind Freshman Heidi Fausze (Temperance, Mich. / Bedford Senior), who registered six kills on 16 attempts, marking a .312 hit%.

With the victory over Harvard, Eastern's 5-2 record is the best start to a season for the Eagles since the 2015 season. The win against the Crimson is EMU's second non-conference win in the Convocation Center this season.

Eastern Michigan hits the road for a mid-week match against Purdue Fort Wayne, Tuesday, Sept. 4 at 6 p.m. The Eagles will return the early-season tournament play at the William and Mary Colonial Classic, Sept. 7-8 in Williamsburg, Va.
