YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University Head Gymnastics Coach Katie Minasola announced the hiring of Christian Minnicks as an assistant coach Tuesday, Aug. 28.
"I am extremely excited to welcome Christian to our staff," exclaimed Minasola. "His technical experience combined with his energy will add to our program. He will also fit in nicely with what Danielle and I already have and continue to work towards. We're looking forward to this upcoming year and continuing to take steps forward as a staff and program."
Minnicks brings with him well-rounded experience having served many roles with USA Gymnastics, including acting as a USA Gymnastics University Certified Instructor, the Women's National Team Center Clinician, a Junior Olympic (J.O.) National Team Coach/Clinician, a J.O. Development/Team Coach and Meet Director for Acro Gymnastics, and a Region 3 Speaker.
As the National Team Center Clinician, Minnicks ran a multitude of camps from 2015-17 covering acrobatics as well as serving as a dance, floor, and vault clinician for the Women's J.O. National Team Camp. Additionally, Minnicks was a certified coach/instructor for the United States All Star Federation, specializing in tosses (levels 2-5), stunts (levels 1-5), and tumbling (levels 1-5).
Outside of USA Gymnastics and the All Star Federation, Minnicks collected extensive coaching experience all over the country, expanding his resume by overseeing dance, vault, beam, bars, tumbling, and choreography from levels 3-elite.
The Orlando, Fla. native worked for Walt Disney World for over 20 years as a professional choreographer and acrobat. Moreover, he was also a backup dancer for Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys from 1998-2000, was a three-time National Dance Champion (1995, 2001, 2003) and the 2001 World Dance Champion.
