The two incoming Eagles will join six freshmen and a JUCO transfer
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University baseball team and Head Coach Eric Roof announced the signing of two additional players to the incoming recruiting class. Holden Cook (Oklahoma City, Okla. - Casady) and Jack Dungan (Commerce Township - Lakeland) will join six freshmen and a junior college transfer for the 2019 season.
Holden Cook RHP R/R 6'5 227 Oklahoma City, Okla – Casady High School
Cook joins the Eagles after playing one year at Murray State Junior College. Prior to his time at Murray State he was a starting pitcher at Casady High School under Head Coach Brad Williams. As a Cyclone he was a captain his senior season as he finished the year with a 4-4 record as a starting pitcher along with a .398 batting average. Cook was an all-state honorable mention in Oklahoma and was a two-time team MVP.
"Holden Cook is another big physical arm," Roof said. "We received word of Holden from former 10 year MLB pitcher George Frazier. Frazier was a teammate of my dad, Gene, in the '80s with the St. Louis Cardinals. George recommended Holden and we couldn't be more excited about him wearing Green and White. Holden has a power arm with swing-and-miss stuff. He is ultra-competitive and has a passion to win. Leaving the junior college after his freshman year allows us to coach him for three years as he should make an immediate impact."
Jack Dungan RHP R/R 6'5 190 Commerce Twp., Mich. – Lakeland High School
Dungan joins the Green and White from Commerce Township where he attended Lakeland High School. Under Head Coach Brad Farquhar, he finished his senior season with a 1.20 ERA and a .366 batting average. The senior captain received academic all-state honors as well as helped his team to two conference titles along with district and regional championships his senior year.
"Jack Dungan is a very athletic multi-sport star as and is an extremely big kid that is still growing," Roof said. "We saw him several years ago and he has done an outstanding job developing. He has a low 90s fastball and is only going to increase once he narrows down to baseball only. We are expecting big things from him."
The two pitchers will be joining seven other incomers for the 2019 campaign including Lewis Beals (Mason, Mich. - Eaton Rapids), Taylor Hopkins (Mason, Ohio - Moeller), Stephen Karis (Zionsville, Ind. - Zionsville Community), Tyler Koons (Flat Rock, Mich. - Carlson), Justin Meis (Pittsburgh, Pa. - Bethel Park), Remington Monce (Largo, Ind. - Northfield (Jackson College)), and Josh Thompson (Springboro, Ohio - Springboro).
