Kotila brings five years of diverse scouting experience to the program and begins his duties immediately

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University Interim Head Baseball Coach Trevor Beerman announced the hiring of Tyler Kotila as the team's director of recruiting and camp coordinator Wednesday, Feb 4.

Kotila brings five years of diverse scouting experience to the program and begins his duties immediately.

"What really stands out about Tyler is his relentless work ethic and his ability to connect with people," said Beerman. "His background in scouting and recruiting gives him a strong eye for talent evaluation, and that perspective will be a major asset to both our players and staff. I'm excited to welcome him back to his home state and see the impact he makes this year."

Prior to joining the Eagles, Kotila served as a national scouting coordinator for Perfect Game USA from 2022-26 after interning with the organization in 2021. Kotila worked closely with collegiate scouts, junior college coaches, area scouts, agents, and other industry contacts to build recruiting profiles for players across the United States and Canada, with a focus on the Midwest. With Perfect Game, Kotila led the 2024 draft cycle, helping compile, organize, and rank draft prospect lists for the current draft year and the following two seasons.

"Getting back into the collegiate game with the Eastern Michigan program is something I'm incredibly excited about," said Kotila. "I'm thrilled to join this coaching staff and group and be a part of the culture moving forward. I'm beyond grateful to Trevor Beerman for allowing me the opportunity, and I'm excited about what we can accomplish with this group."

Kotila brings major league experience, serving as an associate scout for the Chicago White Sox from 2024-25. With the White Sox, Kotila assisted in scouting players across the Midwest and Canada under the direction of crosschecker JJ Lally. He compiled information on potential draft targets in the Midwest while networking with local collegiate and high school coaches and other scouts to identify draft talent.

Kotila graduated from Miami University in 2022 with a bachelor's degree in sport leadership and management, with minors in general business and thematic sequences in accounting and journalism. While a student, Kotila was the lead student manager for the Miami baseball team, helping grow the student management body from three to approximately 30. He oversaw nearly the entire management staff across five different departments: scouting, data, analytics, player development, and gameday operations. He also supported the RedHawks by collecting and analyzing data to refine practices and scouting information.

Outside of baseball, Kotila worked on the statistics crew for Miami hockey for three seasons. He also contributed to numerous fan-driven media outlets as an independent contractor for the Detroit Sports Nation editorial team, focusing on coverage of the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Red Wings.

A native of Warren, Mich., Kotila attended De La Salle Collegiate High School and graduated magna cum laude in 2018.
