This will be his first year serving as a team captain
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - Eastern Michigan University men's track and field Head Coach John Goodridge announced junior Austin Wicker (Pinckney, Mich.-Pinckney) was named the cross country captain for the 2018 season, June 11. This will be Wicker's first season leading the Eagles.
"I am very pleased to announce that Austin will serve as the 2018 Eastern Michigan University Cross Country Team Captain," said Goodridge. "Austin is very representative of other very coachable Eastern men chosen to be a team captain, who have developed in Ypsilanti."
As a senior at Pinckney High School, Wicker placed 28th at the Division I State Cross Country Championships in Michigan. During his first year as an Eagle, he finished 39th in the Mid-American Conference Championships. This past season, he saw a tremendous jump in success during the conference title race, finishing ninth in just his second season of competition. Additionally, that ninth place was pivotal to EMU bringing home the team championship, and it also earned him Second Team All-MAC honors for the first time in his career.
Furthermore, Wicker is continuing an Eastern legacy established before him, as his father, James Wicker, along with his uncle and grandfather all ran at EMU.
