TAMPA, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team finished out the final day of the NCAA East Regionals Saturday, May 26, on the University of South Florida in Tampa, Fla.
Senior Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich.-Chippewa Valley) got things started for the Eagles, finishing out her track and field career in the 1500m quarterfinals. The All-American ran to a time of 4:37.21, finishing 23rd in the pool of competitors. Although she will not be competing in the 1500m at the NCAA Championships, Cizmas' program-best event time of 4:16.83 that she notched earlier this season, solidifies her as one of the best track athletes to ever come through Eastern.
Another EMU-great that saw her track and field career come to an end today was senior Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia-Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1). Dreimane competed in the triple jump, where she reached a distance of 12.53m to place 26th. Much like Cizmas, Dreimane also holds one of the program's top marks, as her personal-best triple jump in the outdoor season (42-04.25) ranks first in EMU's laurels, while her best indoor mark (42-02.50) comes in at third all-time.
The final competition of the day saw senior Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich.-Davison) and junior Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind.-Zionsville Community) take on the 5000m run. McDermitt and Meyers finished 15th and 21st, respectively, ultimately missing out on the NCAA Championships.
This marks the conclusion of the NCAA East Regional, with the season set to wrap up in two weeks at the NCAA Championships, Wednesday-Saturday, June 6-9, in Eugene, Oregon.
