Results Through Friday
TAMPA, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team had one representative punch her ticket to the NCAA Championship during the second day of regionals Friday, May 25, in Tampa, Fla.
Redshirt senior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia-Lyceum #83) had a career day in the 3000m steeplechase, breaking the program record with a time of 9:51.29. Not only does that time serve as the new program best, but it also bested the last record set by Victoria Voronko in 2015 (9:51.63), ranks second in the east region, and will send her to her third outdoor championship.
Senior Janina Pollatz (Grand Rapids, Mich.-Grand Rapids Christian) got the second day of regionals started as she took part in the pole vault. There, she vaulted to a height of 4.08m, tying for 17th overall. With Pollatz unable to qualify for the NCAA Championships, her impressive EMU career has come to an end. The Grand Rapids, Mich. native made the most of her time as an Eagle, as she holds the third-best outdoor vault (4.17m) and fifth-best indoor vault (4.10m) in program history.
Senior Jasmine Jones (Greensburg, Pa.-Hempfield Area) also had a strong personal showing in the 200m dash. Jones raced to a personal-best time of 23.20, finishing just four places outside the qualifying runners at 28th. Although she just missed out on punching her ticket to the championship, that time moves her up to second all-time for the 200m in the EMU outdoor record book, putting an exclamation point on an incredible career donning the Green and White.
The final day of the NCAA preliminaries will see a handful of student-athletes compete. Opening up for the Eagles is senior Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Lativa-Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1), who will compete in the triple jump at 12:30 p.m. Following Dreimane is senior Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich.-Chippewa Valley), who will race in the 1500m quarterfinal at 1:15 p.m., with senior Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich.-Davison) and junior Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind.-Zionsville Community) rounding out the weekend in the 5000m at 8:45 p.m.
