– The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team had one competitor qualify for the NCAA Championships during the second day of regionals Friday, May 25, in Tampa, Fla.

Redshirt senior Hlynur Andresson (Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland-Mountain Ridge) advanced to the NCAA Championships for the first time after racing to a personal-record 3000m steeplechase time of 8:44.11. Not only does that time rank fourth overall in the pool of runners, it also ranks seventh in the EMU outdoor record book, and serves as a new Icelandic record for the steeplechase.

Eastern will close out the regional competition tomorrow with a pair of Eagles competing. Junior Derek Ziegenfuss (Allentown, Pa.-Parkland) opens up the day as he competes in the javelin at 1:30 p.m., while the 4x400 relay team puts a lid on the weekend with their competition commencing at 3:55 p.m.
