FORT WAYNE, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – With 36 holes in the books at the 2018 Mid-American Conference Championship, the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team sits in six-place with a 617 (312-305). Ball State University leads the way after posting a 595 (302-293) on the par 72, 7,331 yard Sycamore Hills Golf Club course.
The Cardinals hold a four-stroke lead heading into day two, that total includes holding down three of the tournament's top seven slots. No. 29 Kent State (599) is in second place followed by Miami (606), Toledo (616), EMU (617), Northern Illinois (618), Bowling Green (631), and Ohio (649).
Three of the five Eagles are ranked in the top 30, including freshman Ty Celone (Long Sault, Ontario, Canada- St Joseph's Catholic) who is tied for seventh with a six-over 150 (77-73). The Long Sault, Ontario, Canada native notched a one-over 73 in the second round after posting a 77 in his first MAC Tournament round.
Sophomore Zach Sudinsky (McKinney, Texas-Boyd-Stephen F. Austin) notched a 154 (78-76) for 15th. Junior Beau Breault (Hartland, Mich.-Hartland) is tied for 27th with a 157 (75-82) and freshman Cougar Collins (Caledon, Ontario, Canada-Mayfield Secondary) is tied for 33rd with a 160 (85-75). Rounding out the EMU lineup, senior Nic Ross (Dundas, Ontario, Canada-Highland Secondary) fired rounds of 82 and 81 for 39th-place.
BSU's Michael VanDeventer is atop the leaderboard by seven strokes with a three-under 141 (70-71).
The third round of the 2018 MAC Men's Golf Championship will get underway at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 28, with the final round scheduled for Sunday, April 30, at 7:45 a.m. For live scoring, visit http://www.golfstat.com.
