STILLWATER, Okla. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University baseball team heads back south for a three-game weekend series at Oklahoma State University, March 9-11. The match-up with the Cowboys begins with a 5 p.m. first pitch Friday, followed by a 3 p.m. start time Saturday, and wrapping up with a 2 p.m. game Sunday.
The action can be followed live on Twitter by following @EMU_Baseball. Fans can also follow the game through live stats on OKState.com, while a live stream will be provided by OSU through YouTube Live. Links can be found on the schedule page of EMUEagles.com.
SUPER SCHENKER: Junior Kolton Schenker had a two-hit contest at Dayton, March 6, but both hits were big ones, with the first being a grand slam, and the second a solo homer. It was the first multi-home run game and first grand slam since Jordan Peterson's three home run, nine-RBI output on Mother's Day last season at Northern Illinois, May 14. In addition, it was EMU's third five-RBI game performance this season, as Schenker joined Zachary Owings and Jeff Timko as Eagles to accomplish the feat in 2018.
ALL-TIME VS. OKLAHOMA STATE: EMU and OSU have met eight times in their respective histories, with the Cowboys leading the all-time series, 7-1. The two teams first met back in 1982, and have played games in the '82, '85, and 2004 seasons. EMU's lone win in the series came in the '04 season opener, a 5-3 triumph, Feb. 13.
GOOD THINGS HAPPEN TO THOSE WHO WAIT: After not seeing time in the first nine games of the season, freshman Jared Kauffman has put on an offensive clinic in his first three games for the Eagles. In the three games, including two starts, the Springboro, Ohio product has six hits in nine at bats (.667) including a double, a home run, six runs scored, and four RBIs.
AMONG THE NCAA's BEST: Through the first 12 games of the season, Max Schuemann has been one of the top players in the country offensively. The infielder ranks first in the country in steals (12), 35th in hits (21), 61st in total bases (33), and 71st in runs scored (14).
OFFENSE SHINING EARLY: Despite its record, the EMU offense has shined early on this season, batting .306 with 87 runs, 132 hits, as well as a whopping 38 stolen bases, while scoring 7.3 runs-per-game. The Eagles have tallied double-digit hits in eight of the first 12 contests. Nationally, the team batting average ranks 33rd, while hits are 31st, and scoring is 46th.
ZOOM ZOOM: In each of the last three seasons, EMU has finished in the top-60 nationally in stolen bases, including third in the NCAA in 2016 and 11th in 2015. This season, Eastern is off to a fast start on the base paths, as they have swiped 38 bags in the first 12 games, good for third in the country behind UCF (44) and Southeastern Louisiana (48). Additionally, Max Schuemann's 12 steals are top in the nation.
ON THE HORIZON: EMU takes the middle of the week off before returning to the south for a weekend series against the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. The three-game set against the Vaqueros will begin with an 8 p.m. first pitch, Friday, March 16.
