The five will compete throughout the 800, 1500, 5000, and 10000m
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field returns to competition this weekend Friday-Saturday, March 30-31, at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C. This will be the first time the Eagles have competed in the relays since the 2014-15 campaign.
EMU will be represented by redshirt senior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia-Lyceum #83), senior Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich.-Chippewa Valley), junior Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind.-Zionsville Community), and freshmen Madison Distelrath (Fort Wayne, Ind.-Homestead) and Ashleigh Simonis (Cape Town, South Africa-Milnerton).
Cizmas will be competing in the 800m and 1500m, with Distelrath joining her in the 1500m. Bogdanova and Meyers will each be taking part in the 5000m, while Simonis will act as the lone Eagle running in the 10,000m.
The last time EMU competed in the N.C.-based meet, then-freshman Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich.-Davison) stole the show in the first day of action, placing third in her collegiate debut of the 10,000m by finishing with a then-personal best time of 34:15.99, which also ranked second in EMU's outdoor history at the time. Cizmas was also apart of the first day of competition, as she finished 85th in the 1500m as a freshman, running to a time of 4:45.51.
Cizmas will undoubtedly be looking to crush that time this weekend, as she has since marked a new personal-best of 4:19.74 in the event.
Action at the relays is scheduled to begin 9 a.m. Friday, starting with the 5000m run before opening up the field events with discus at 10:45 a.m. The competition will continue into Saturday, with javelin commencing at 9:45 a.m. and track events starting at 11 a.m. with the last section of the 10,000m. Live results can be found by clicking here, or by following the link on the track and field schedule page located on EMUEagles.com. The relays will also be broadcast on the ACC Network Extra for a block of time on both Friday and Saturday.
