– The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team placed fourth in the Mid-American Conference Championships Saturday, March 24, which was hosted by Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Mich. The Eagles' team score of 195.275 was their third-best of the season.

The day saw three performances that served as personal records, as well as an outstanding team performance on beam which earned a season-high 49.075. Additionally, redshirt senior Lacey Rubin (Plainview, N.Y.-Plainview Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy) took second place on bars with a 9.9, landing herself on the all-tournament team.

After starting the meet on a bye, EMU's first opportunity came on floor, where the event squad earned a 48.675. Senior Megan Marino (Girard, Ohio-Howland) paced the crew, scoring a 9.8 after nailing both her passes. Sophomore Emili Dobronics (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) also had a great showing, getting her all-around started with a 9.75. Seniors Jules Schwartz (Gilbert, Ariz.-Mesquite) and Kirsten Gendron (Birch Run, Mich.-Frankenmuth) rounded out the scoring routines, as the two both hit for a 9.7 in back-to-back performances.

Coming out of their second bye, the Eagles picked things back up on vault by notching a team score of 48.725. In her first event of the day, senior Kendall Valentin (Holmdel, N.J.-Holmdel) stuck her landing to lead EMU with a 9.8. Junior Megan Hultgren (Rockford, Ill.-Sacred Heart Classical Center) also saw her first action of the day on vault, hitting for a 9.775 to tie her third-best score of the season. Meanwhile, Dobronics notched her second straight 9.75 of the day as she continued the all-around, while Schwartz marked a 9.725 for her vault. Tying for sixth best on the team was redshirt freshman Allie Smith (Telford, Pa.-Souderton) and freshman Jada Rondeau (Norwood Young America, Minn.-Central), who each earned scores of 9.675.

Bars proved to be Eastern's second-best event of the meet, as the Green and White came out of its last bye to tally a 48.8 in the event. The cohort was led by redshirt senior Lacey Rubin (Plainview, N.Y.-Plainview Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy) who nailed her routine for a 9.9. Including Rubin, Eastern's lineup had four Eagles earn a 9.8-or-greater. Ranking second on EMU, Rondeau continued her excellent first MAC Championship by tying her personal record on bars with a 9.85. Additionally, redshirt sophomore Carly Clark (White Lake, Mich.-Walled Lake Northern) and freshman Cortney Bezold (Maineville, Ohio-Bishop Fenwick) each notched a 9.8, with Clark's serving as a new personal best and Bezold's tying her career high. Valentin anchored the group by putting together a solid routine, but stumbling on her dismount cost her, as the senior ultimately ended with a 9.45.

The Eagles saved their best overall performance for last, earning a season-high 49.075 on beam. Valentin put together another outstanding routine to earn a team-best 9.9, which also tied her career high. Marino also had an excellent routine, setting a new personal record with a 9.85. Additionally, Hultgren tallied a 9.825 for her second-best score of the season, while Dobronics also set a new personal best with a 9.8. Furthermore, Rondeau concluded her impressive rookie season by earning a 9.7 for her routine.

Although EMU did not qualify to the NCAA Regional Championships as a team, the Green and White will now wait to see if any individual student-athletes earn the nod to continue their season.
