Softball Falls to Buffalo in MAC Opener

The Eagles will wrap up the series tomorrow afternoon
BUFFALO, N.Y. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University softball team opened Mid-American Conference play with a 9-1 defeat against the University at Buffalo, Friday, March 23, at the Dobson Field.
The Eagles (4-19, 0-1 MAC) were held without a hit, manufacturing their only run on UB walks and errors. Junior Olivia Logan (Riverview, Mich.-Riverview) recorded EMU's only RBI of the afternoon on a sac fly.
In the opening frame, the Bulls (9-14, 1-0 MAC) used a two-run double to jump out to an early, 2-0, lead over the Green and White.
Eastern's lone run of the day came from freshman Casey Skeens (Poca, W. Va.-Poca), who came across on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Logan during the top of the third.
Buffalo extended its lead with runs in the third and fourth innings, before a single to right field scored two to end the game via run-rule in the fifth inning, 9-1.
On the mound, junior Nicolle Miranda (Wilmington, Calif.-Port of Los Angeles) earned the starting nod but five walks ended her day short as senior Trisha Trujillo (Whittier, Calif.-California) got the call for relief. Trujillo, through one inning of work, struck out two, while giving up three hits.
Eastern returns to the field Saturday, March 24, when it concludes the series against UB with a doubleheader. Action is slated to get underway at 1 p.m.
