Eagles Off to a Hot Start in Outdoor Season

FORT WORTH, Texas (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team opened its outdoor season at the TCU Invitational Saturday, March 17, in Fort Worth, Texas. The meet saw three personal records set and one performance that tied a program record.
The 400 relay team comprised of senior Jasmine Jones (Greensburg, Pa.-Hempfield Area), juniors Jessica Harris (Slidell, La.-Slidell) and Brittni Mason (Richmond Heights, Ohio-West Geauga), and sophomore Micah Johnston (Toledo, Ohio-Toledo Christian), raced to a time of 44.99 to place second in the meet and tie the EMU all-time record in the event, which has stood since 2005.
Jones also found success in each individual event she competed in, pacing the Eagles and setting new personal-records in both the 100m and 200m dash. In the 100m, Jones finished with a time of 11.62, which ranked fifth in the meet and moved her to sixth all-time in EMU laurels. Additionally, her 200m time gave her second-place in the day's competition, while placing her at third all-time in the Eastern outdoor record book.
Johnston also notched a new outdoor career-best in her respective event, the 400m, where she marked a time of 54.95 to place fifth.
In the field events, the Green and White had a pair of top-two finishes. Senior Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia-Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1) notched a distance of 12.51m in the triple jump to win the event, while senior Janina Pollatz (Grandville, Mich.-Grand Rapids Central) placed second in the pole vault with a height of 3.96m in her first meet back in over a year.
The Eagles will have a week off from competition before they get back into action at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C., over the course of Friday and Saturday, March 30 and 31.
