Women's Golf Shaves Six Strokes from Opening Round at Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. (EMUEagles.com) – With one round to go at the 3M Augusta Invitational , the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team sits in a tie with James Madison University for 12th-place with a two-day tally of 614. In her return from an injury, senior Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne) led the Eagles in the second round of play Saturday, March 17, carding an even-par 72 at Forest Hills Golf Club.
Overall, EMU shaved six strokes off its opening round 310 to fire a 304 on its second time through the course. Georgia still holds an 11-stroke edge on Purdue going into the final round, thriving from their seven-under par, first-round score Friday. Jillian Hollis gave a stroke back Saturday, shooting one-over par, but maintains the individual lead at five-under par.
Freshman Preaw Sripatrprasite (Bangkok, Thailand-Siam International) and junior Penelope Guilleux (Saint Maur Des Fosse, France-Arsonval) are tied for 36th place with two-day marks of 152. Sripatrprasite turned in a 77, while Giuilleux followed her opening round 73 with a 79. Beck, who mised the Rio Verde Invitation due to injury, improved her score by 11 stroke with a 72 for a total of 155 (83-72).
Sophomore Maria Connelly (Waterville, Ohio-Anthony Wayne) also improved by four strokes in the second round for a 156 (80-76). Sophomores Julia Stevenson (Milford, Mich.-Milford) and Katelin Lawson (LaSalle, Ontario-Ridge Community-Tampa) round out the lineup with a 171 (82-89) and a 168 (80-88), respectively.
The final round takes place tomorrow, March 18
