The meet has two days of competition Friday-Saturday, March 16-17

DALLAS, Texas (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team opens its outdoor season this weekend, Friday-Saturday, March 16-17, as they take part in the TCU Invitational in Dallas, Texas.

Last year, the Eagles opened their outdoor competition at the Jack Shaw Classic and Stanford Invitational, March 31. The Green and White finished second in the Jack Shaw Classic, while redshirt senior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia-Lyceum #83) and senior Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich.-Davison) each broke a school record in their respective events at the Stanford Invitational. Bogdanova's time of 15:14.94 in the 5000m was good for ninth place, and was later surpassed on the EMU all-time list when she bested her own record with a mark of 15:43.84 at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, where she placed second in the country to earn First Team All-American honors. McDermitt's finishing time of 33:37.37 in the 10,000m earned her a 13th-place finish and still serves as the program's all-time best.

In the classic, EMU had an all-around impressive performance, capturing 20 top-three finishes and seven event titles en route to its second-place finish. Junior Jessica Harris (Slidell, La.-Slidell) paced EMU in the sprints, as she claimed the 100m crown with a time of 12.26. Eastern also swept the relay races, claiming first in the 4x100 with a time of 47:03 and finishing atop the podium in the 4x400 with a mark of 3:55.49. However, EMU's most dominating performances came in the field events, where Dreimane won gold in the triple jump with a distance of 11.97m, sophomore Kristine Bourg (Shorewood, Ill.-Joliet West) took first in the javelin throw with a toss of 35.68m, and former student-athletes Megan Pendleton and Natalie Uy placed first in the discus throw and pole vault, respectively.

EMU is fresh off an incredible indoor postseason, which saw the Eagles capture their fifth Mid-American Conference Indoor Championship, First Team All-American honors in the distance medley relay, and Bogdanova earning Second Team All-American honors in the 3000m. The Green and White will look to bring its momentum  into the outdoor slate in hopes of winning its second "Triple Crown" in program history, and its first since the 2015-16 season.

Action at the TCU Invitational is set to begin Friday, March 16, at 11:40 a.m. with discus and the hammer throw. Day two of the invite is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. with the javelin, while running events are scheduled to start at 12:20 p.m. Long jump will commence Saturday at 12:30 p.m., with pole vault taking place shortly after at 12:45 p.m., and the triple jump beginning at 3 p.m. Fans can follow along via live results by clicking here, or by following the link located on the schedule page on EMUEagles.com.
