PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (EMUEagles.com
) – The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team took third place with a season-high score of 195.725 in the quad meet hosted by Temple University, Sunday, March 11. The Eagles bested Rutgers University (184.5), but fell short of Lindenwood University (196.4), and Temple (196.05).

EMU's team score was the first time this season that the Green and White was able to break through the 195 threshold, and was in large part possible due to the bars squad marking a season-high score of 49.15. Senior Kendall Valentin (Holmdel, N.J.-Holmdel) led the event, tying her career-high of 9.95 to win the event title. Redshirt senior Lacey Rubin (Plainview, N.Y.-Plainview Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy) also had an incredibly bars routine, earning a new career-best score of 9.925, the second-best score of the meet.

The day began with Eastern posting its second-best beam score of the season with a 48.9. Senior Megan Marino (Girard, Ohio-Howland) paced the Eagles on beam, putting together a beautiful routine to earn her second 9.85 of the season. Junior Megan Hultgren (Rockford, Ill.-Sacred Heart Classical Center) also put together a solid routine, notching a 9.825 for her second-best score on the event this season, while Valentin anchored the squad with a 9.8, her third such score of 2018. Additionally, sophomore Emili Dobronics (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) and freshman Jada Rondeau (Norwood Young America, Minn.-Central) started their all-arounds with a 9.75 and 9.675, respectively.

The second rotation saw the Eagles on floor, where Marino and Rondeau notched back-to-back 9.825s to lead EMU. Marino's performance served as the third time she has reached her season-high mark, while Rondeau's 9.825 was the third of her season. Senior Jules Schwartz (Gilbert, Ariz.-Mesquite) also nailed her passes, earning her second-best score on floor this campaign with a 9.775. Dobronics and redshirt freshman Allie Smith (Telford, Pa.-Souderton) each posted scores of 9.65.

EMU's second-best event of the day came in the form of vault, as the Eagles notched their second-best event score of the year with a 48.95. Schwartz continued her stellar day, sticking for a score of 9.85, the second-best vault she has had this season. Returning to the lineup was Valentin, who tied her second-best score this year with a 9.825. Hultgren put a cap on her day with another impressive performance, posting a 9.8 for her vault. Dobronics earned her second 9.75 of the meet, while Smith and Rondeau earned scores of 9.725 and 9.7, respectively.

The Green and White saved the best for last, earning its best score in any event this season with a 49.15. Valentin rounded out the event by tying her career-high 9.95, which came immediately after Rubin put up a new personal-best with a 9.925. Their scores were just the second and third time this season an Eagle has put up over a 9.9 in an event. Freshman Cortney Bezold (Maineville, Ohio-Bishop Fenwick) also notched a career-best of her own, earning an impressive 9.825. Rondeau finished out her day with a 9.75, setting a new personal-best all-around of 38.95, while Dobronics notched a 9.7 to bring her all-around to a 38.85.

The Eagles will look to bring their momentum into Friday's meet against Western Michigan University, March 16, which also serves as the annual Senior Day meet inside the Convocation Center. There, the outstanding careers of the five EMU seniors will be honored for all of their accomplishments.
