YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)
– The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team fell to Northern Illinois University Friday, Feb. 9 in Ypsilanti, Mich. The evening saw four career-best performances, but the Eagles (3-5, 0-3 MAC) could not close the gap against the Huskies (3-8, 1-2 MAC) as they dropped their third Mid-American Conference dual of the year, 195.425-194.900.

The Eagles started their day off on vault, putting together four-straight performances that saw three personal-bests and one season-high score achieved. Senior Jules Schwartz (Gilbert, Ariz.-Mesquite) paced EMU with a 9.775, which serves as a new season-high in the event. Freshman Cali Harden (Saline, Mich.-Saline) came away with an impressive career-high 9.750, with redshirt freshman Allison Smith (Telford, Pa.-Souderton) setting a career-mark of her own with a 9.725.

After a few mishaps on bars, EMU was able to finish out with a respectable 48.6 behind impressive routines from senior Kendall Valentin (Holmdel, N.J.-Holmdel) and redshirt senior Lacey Rubin (Plainview, N.Y.-Plainview Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy), as they notched a 9.85 and 9.825, respectively, closing out the event on a strong note. Sophomore Emili Dobronics (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) also contributed to the score with a 9.75, as she continued her all-around with another solid performance.

The Green and White took the momentum gained in the last few routines from bars and used it to earn its second best event score of the night on beam, tallying a 48.8. A pair of 9.8s earned by freshman Jada Rondeau (Norwood Young America, Minn.-Central) and Valentin led the event squad, while Rubin and junior Megan Hultgren (Rockford, Ill.-Sacred Heart Classical Center) put together solid routines themselves, each earning a 9.75.

Floor saw the best performances collectively, as Eastern notched its best team score of the meet on the last event of the evening, earning a 48.875. The Eagles' score was the second-highest floor team score of the season and was led by Dobronics, who posted a career-high 9.85 to finish out the meet with an all-around score of 39.000. Senior Megan Marino (Girard, Ohio-Howland) also put together an impressive routine, marking a season-best score of 9.825. Rondeau also concluded her solid evening with a 9.775, while Schwartz notched a 9.75 in her first floor routine of the season.

EMU completes its three-meet home stand when it hosts the Illinois State Redbirds Thursday, Feb. 15. Action is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. inside the Convocation Center.
