This is the second-to-last competition before the Eagles take part in the indoor MAC Championships
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team returns to Allendale, Mich., Friday, Feb. 9 for the annual GVSU Big Meet. This is the Eagles' fourth straight year competing in the in-state competition.
The Green and White faired well in last year's Big Meet, placing third out of 39 teams with a team score of 42 points. Additionally, EMU saw 13 career-bests and eight top-five placings. Of the many top-tier finishes, then-sophomore Cameron Hart (Columbus, Ohio-Bishop Hartley) was the lone Eagle to earn first-place in his respective event, as he took home gold in the high jump with a height of 2.10m.
Most recently, Hart and the Eagles competed in the Meyo Invitational and Hillsdale Wide Track Classic, Feb. 2-3. Over the course of the two meets, Eastern captured five event titles and saw nine personal-records set. Of all the impressive performances, redshirt senior Hlynur Andresson (Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland-Mountain Ridge) had arguably the best individual showing, as he won the 3000m title with a career-best time of 8:02.08, which placed him sixth all-time in the indoor EMU record book, and gave him the top ranking for the event in the Mid-American Conference this season. Additionally, for his performance, he earned Mid-American Conference Track Athlete of the Week honors, the team's second of the season. Teammate and freshman Owen Day (Ottawa, Ontario-International School of Dusseldorf) also put together a run which earned him a new career-best in the mile, crossing the finish line in 4:02.77 to move him into tenth all-time in EMU standards, while also serving as the top-mark this season in the conference by almost six seconds.
