Senior Tyler Lewis fired a career-best 66 in the opening round

GOODYEAR, Ariz. (EMUEagles.com) – Senior Tyler Lewis (Ortonville, Mich.-Brandon-Mott CC) fired a career-best six-under 66 in the opening round of the Loyola Intercollegiate Sunday, Feb. 25, on the par 72 Palm Valley Golf Club course. Lewis improved five shots from his previous low of 71 set during the final round of the Rutherford Intercollegiate, April 16, 2017.
Lewis' 66 is tied for the 10th lowest 18-hole tally in program history, and is the best since Nic Ross (Dundas, Ontario, Canada-Highland Secondary) notched the same mark at the Louisville Challenge, Oct 1, 2017.
Overall, the Ortonville, Mich. native is tied for seventh place with a 36-hole total of 136 (66-70). Second round action was not fully completed Sunday, as darkness set in with a handful of teams still on the course. The morning's start was delayed slightly due to frost on the course.
EMU is in ninth place as a team with a 564 (280-284). The College of Charleston holds down the top spot on the leaderboard with a 546 (270-276), while SIU Edwardsville's Danny Gorman sets the individual standard at 132 (68-64).
The second round will resume at 8:30 a.m. MT with the third and final round to follow immediately after.
