Five players scored in double figures for the first time since 2015

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team began its four-game road trip with an 87-72 win over Purdue University Fort Wayne at the Gates Sports Center Saturday, Dec. 8. EMU fed off its best offensive performance of the season, knocking down a season-high 12 three-pointers, to take control of the game en route to the Eagles' fifth win of the season.

For the first time since Dec. 18, 2015, Eastern Michigan (5-2) saw five players reach double figures. Sophomore Courtnie Lewis (Belton, Mo.-Belton) led the way with a game-high 28 points on 9-of-14 shooting, highlighted by six triples. Redshirt senior Danielle Minott (Miami, Fla.-Miami Country Day (Syracuse)) added 17 points and a team-high five rebounds. Freshman Natalia Pineda (Miami, Fla.-John A. Ferguson) added a career-best 12 points, while redshirt sophomore Corrione Cardwell (Cleveland, Ohio-New Tech East) and redshirt senior Lorraine Enabulele (Ajax, Ontario-Notre Dame (Kansas)) chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively.

EMU posted a season-best 55.6 field goal percentage, going 30-of-54 from the field. Eastern also knocked down a season-high 12 triples, while going 15-for-20 from the charity stripe. Meanwhile, the Mastodons converted 44.9 percent of their shots and just 5-of-17 triple attempts.

The Mastodons (3-7) used three triples and hot shooting to inch ahead 22-21 after the first quarter, but the Eagles bounced back before the half. The Green and White responded with a trio of threes and knocked down 9-of-14 attempts to go into the locker room in front, 43-35.

Eastern Michigan never looked back from there, using a barrage of triples from Minott, Pineda, and Lewis to hold off Purdue Fort Wayne, 87-72.

After a break for final exams, Eastern continues its roadtrip with a stop in Farmville, Va. to take on Longwood University. Tipoff between the Eagles and Lancers is slated for 1 p.m.
