Strong Second Half Leads EMU to Win at Longwood

EMU moved to 6-2 on the season with the win
FARMVILLE, Va. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team extended its win streak to three with a 19-point victory over Longwood University inside Willett Hall, Dec. 15. EMU (6-2) shook off a sluggish first half with a dominating third quarter to down the Lancers (1-6), 64-45.
A balanced attacked led the way for EMU, as four players scored in double figures. Redshirt sophomore Corrione Cardwell (Cleveland, Ohio-New Tech East) led the team with 15 points, and also contributed three assists, three rebounds, and a steal. Freshman Jenna Annecchiarico (Baldwin, N.Y.-Baldwin) followed close behind with 14 points of her own, the second double-digit effort of her career, and had seven assists to just one turnover. Shooting 2-of-4 from behind the three-point line, Courtnie Lewis (Belton, Mo.-Belton) put up 10 points, and redshirt senior Lorraine Enabulele (Ajax, Ontario-Notre Dame (Kansas)) dominated the paint and chipped in 11 points for the Green and White.
Eastern finished with a 40.7 field goal percentage, going 24-of-59 from the floor, while Longwood posted a 27.8 percent clip and went 15-of-54. EMU also held the advantage from the long line, knocking down four three-pointers to Longwood's three. Meanwhile, both teams went 12-for-18 at the free throw line.
The Green and White struggled to score in the first half, shooting 30.1 percent, but improved in the second half as it converted 53.8 percent of its shots. The second half was a turning point for the Eagles as they forced the Lancers into 14 turnovers to their seven. Finishing strong in the fourth quarter, Eastern went 8-of-9 from the charity line to seal the win, 64-45.
Before the holiday break, the Eagles will travel to West Palm Beach, Fla. to compete in the West Palm Beach Invitational, Dec. 20-21. Eastern will play its first of two games on Thursday, Dec. 20, against UNC Greensboro, tipoff at 4:45 p.m.
